MASTERING
Let's be honest, I'm not going to pretend to be a Mastering Engineer or have the proper gear, BUT! I do have colaborated relationships with mastering studios, and typical rates for full length are between $500-$700. To be clear, I'm not making a dime for being the middle man, but you'll get a better rate if you go through me. Mastering in the box is fine and I can do that if budget is tight, and in many cases they are. I'll master it, but in all honesty, I feel it bastardizes the Mastering Engineer and its purpose. It's like a band recording their own stuff on their Motu, Pro Tools LE or Garageband, can they do it? Hell yeah they can, but does that make them an engineer ? And in most cases the art and project suffer and it doesn't show its fullest potential. Their creative flow is interupted with _____Now with time, that same band will fullfill and become engineers and execute a solid sound, but time and a meticulous ear separates the novice and the engineer. Same goes with Mastering. Just because I have a Mastering Suite plug-ins doesn't mean anything except I spent some money. While I may seem like I'm selling myself short, I'm just being honest, and walk with integrity and take pride into what I'm involved in. Spend the extra $$ even if it means your band has to save money for 3 weeks, it's well worth it. Seriously. |
